Hannah Richman (1891-1951)

Hannah married Bert Shaw Howells on November 26, 1909.

Hannah was an excellent homemaker. She did all of the family sewing and mending and was an excellent cook. She also made her own soap and hand lotion. Hannah loved her yard and she loved beautiful flowers. She loved to make quilts. For several years, she had a severe pain on the left side of her head. She ended up in the St Marks Hospital in Salt Lake for tests. Hannah never came home. She passed away, cause of death a bubble on the artery (or an aneurism as they call it today).

Aha Sinfield Richman (1893-1919)

Aha was kicked in the stomach by a horse and died from this accident. He was only 25 years old (almost 26) and was not married.

Jane Charlotte Sinfield's Parents

Samuel Sinfield (1820-1904) & Hannah Middleton (1822-1903)

Samuel Sinfield Richman was born in Eversholt, England in 1820 to William Sinfield and Elizabeth Pepper Sinfield. Soon after he married his first wife, Phebe Cross, in 1841, Mormon missionaries called at their home. They accepted the gospel and were baptized in 1842. In 1852, they sold everything they owned to migrate to Utah. Unfortunately, Phebe died one week before they were to leave. Grieving, yet determined to go forward, Samuel and his two daughters boarded the ship for America. They came west with the pioneers and settled in Ogden, Utah, living in a dugout at first. They later had a home and farm on the site where the Depot and Railroad Yards of Ogden are now situated.

Hannah Middleton was born November 25, 1822 in England to John Middleton and Margaret Alderson. She joined the Church in 1846 at age 24. Her first husband, Foster Hawkey, was a shipwright by trade and was swept into the sea and drowned in 1852. In 1855, Hannah took advantage of the Church's Perpetual Emigrating Fund to travel to Utah by ship and handcart. Delays in ships and trains made it so that the Martin Handcart Company was the last to leave Florence, Nebraska, on July 28, 1856. But with faith, Hannah set out with her 14-year-old boy James (from Foster's first marriage) and two girls (ages 4 and 3). Her boy James died at the Platte River and was burried with many other Saints there. Relief parties finally found the Martin Company and brought Hannah and her two girls to Salt Lake, arriving on November 30, 1856. Hannah's feet were frozen so severely that the toes burst open. But her woolen stockings helped prevent infection, so her feet didn't have to be amputated. However, she was not able to walk until the following spring.

Samuel met Hannah in Utah and they were married during the summer of 1857. The family made their home in Ogden, Utah, in a pretty little two room adobe house which was located on what is now 24th Street between Wall Ave and Lincoln Ave. This is near where the railroad station was later built. South of the 24th Street viaduct was Samuel's farming land. While living in Ogden three children were born to this couple: George Robert Sinfield, Jane Charlotte Sinfield, and Henrietta Middleton Sinfield.

When the railroad came to Ogden in 1869, Samuel believed that it would bring many questionable characters, so he sold his home and moved his family to Paradise, where he farmed until he died in 1904 at 84 years old. Hannah dies at age 81.
