Joy and her dog Dutchess. “She would sleep with her feet straight in the air. Every time she did this, I would run to mom crying because I thought she was dead. Larry was such a great brother, and would always comfort me…calling to Dutchess until she would wake up and run to us. I remember mom telling the story of how Dutchess fell asleep one day in the middle of the road. A gentleman stopped his car and came to our door. He struggled, trying tell us our dog must have been hit by a car. Boy was he surprised when mom called to Dutchess and she came running!”

Engagement picture
On June 5, 1980, Joy married Blair Jacobson. The family gathered at the Idaho Falls Temple. We went through a live endowment session for Joy and Rick. After the session, Joy and Blair were sealed. It was touching to witness my first sister married. I am sure our mother (Joyce) was watching and was very pleased. Her only daughter was married, and her youngest son received his endowment. I met Blair for the first time the day before the wedding. He was quite an outdoorsman. Of all the siblings in our family, I would have guessed Joy to be the least likely to become an outdoor person—hunting, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. Joy had a reception in Swan Valley that night and another reception in Boise on June 6. At the Boise reception, Rick and I emceed the program, which consisted of two musical numbers from ward members and a drum solo by Rick.
